Porth, Newquay: surf report and beach guide

Live surf, wind and tide for Porth, worked out through the day and ranked against the other Newquay beaches.

A narrow inlet that goes shallow and warm, which children love. Fills right up at high tide, and there is nowhere to park.

RNLI lifeguards roughly 16 May to 27 September, usually 10am to 6pm; the RNLI publishes exact dates each spring.

No dogs 10:00 to 18:00 from 1 July to 31 August.

No car park at the beach.

    Surf guide

Best swell: W to NW, and it needs plenty of west to get in. Best wind: SE, offshore. Best tide: low tide, as it starts to push in. The wave: Small, mellow lefts and rights. Bottom: Sand. Suits: Beginners, best when small. Crowd: Quiet. Watch out for: A rip by the river mouth, worse on spring tides after rain. Boards: Longboard or foamie. On the beach: Lifeguards in season, cafés; no car park.

Rips. A rip sits near the river mouth. Eleven swimmers were pulled out of it in September 2026, one of them unconscious, on spring tides with the river running high after rain.Radio Newquay reporting the RNLI, September 2026
